Choice
This picture was taken in my closet in Chandler Az.
This photo demonstrates braking the pattern. For obvious reasons. The red definitely stands out against the blues, grays, and black.
Distracted
I took this photo at the green belt near my home in Chandler Arizona.
This picture shows a bad background because the lighting coming from the rocks is bright enough to distract the viewer from the already bright subject.
Curious
This picture was taken in the same location as the picture above.
This photo demonstrates a good background (though the colors of the background and subject are complementary) because the background does not detract from the subject's presence. Note: in the two pictures above, the background didn't change; the subject and lighting did.
